Facilitating Change

Corporate Change, whether it be implementing a new brand or driving a new service delivery is exceedingly difficult to manifest. Invitro have designed a business around this corporate challenge. Invitro acts as an Intervention, we partner with business teams around a key business or marketing problem. Integral to this process is removing stakeholders from the pressures and routines of day to day business life. By using a very human approach to group facilitation we are able to create an ideas space where mindsets and behaviors associated with change can be influenced.

The Invitro Approach is highly mindful of the Human Landscape within the work environment. This Human Landscape includes perceptions and assumptions of the current situation, and emotions and beliefs connected to the status quo and future scenario resistance driven by fears and aspirations. Successfully executing major change requires navigating this human landscape.

A typical Invitro Intervention Workshop Design includes 2 Stages: First Problem Revelation, then Solution Manifestation and Commitment. These 2 stages are critical to ensure any chance of Sustainable Transformation.

A Workshop to Facilitate Change


Einstein said, “We can’t solve problems by using the same kind of thinking we used when we created them.”  We need to put as much energy behind discovering the true problem as we do behind the ideas to solve those problems. We fail most often not because our ideas are poor but because our ideas are directed at fixing the wrong problem! Just think about how much money is thrown at Road Safety Campaigns educating people that Speeding Kills. But who is really unaware of the dangers of speeding? Very few. The true problem is that when we get behind the wheel,  we get lost in the moment and disregard the dangers. Any Speeding solution must start here or run the risk of failure.

This first stage of Problem Revelation or Realisation requires 3 inputs to create the ”Catharsis” required for change.

1. Insight – this is old and new learning shared to create a common view of the problem.

2. Interrogation – Both outward and inward interrogation of core strenghts and weaknesses and external threats and opportunities.

3. Inspiration – Looking at how others have solved a similar issue.  To create optimism for change.

The King and Queen of this kind of transformation can be found in an unexpected place, on the telly. Mary Portas of Mary Queen of Shops and Gordon Ramsay of Kitchen Nightmares use this approach with great mastery in order to get their subjects to make change in their business establishments. Its not uncommon to see business owners weap as they painfully realise their “problem” and that theypersonally must make significant changes to salvage their failing retail outlet or restaurant.

 A clear definition of the True Problem and the Human Realization that some change is required provides the necessary fuel for the second stage of the workshop.

The second stage, or Solution Commitment stage requires that we marshall the expertise and human potential of the group to generate all manner of solutions to the True Problem.

4. Imagination – We believe business is too left brained and not creatve enough. Its our job to arm the group with tools to unlock their   creative potential and empower them to generate more effective solutions.

5. Ideas – This creative energy needs to manifest as fully formed and actionable ideas.

Its only by keeping the True Problem in sight while generating solutions that teams can truly let go of old ideas and past ways. The gravity of the situation helps maintain a necessary. 

The Invitro Workshop Intervention is just the beginning of the process, helping to kick-start a process of change. As implementation plans then run into trouble the Workshop experience acts as a  compass reminding the team of where they are headed and what they need to walk away from.
